Aboriginal Music Mixtape Volume 6 now available

Volume 6 of Aboriginal Music Manitoba’s Aboriginal Music Mixtape features songs from D Thought, Edmund Bull, Vibez, JB the First Lady, Becky Thomas, and Out of The Blue. The songs will be available until December 1, 2011 and all you need to do to get them is sign up at the bottom of the www.ammb.ca/mix page with your name and email address.

The mixtape series is one of the ways that Aboriginal Music Manitoba introduces audiences to some of the great music coming out of the Aboriginal music community at home and abroad. A new mixtape will be released every three months with up to eight songs from Indigenous artists working in any and all genres.

D Thought is a Canadian/Aboriginal hip hip recording artist hailing from Iskatewizaagegan #39 First Nation. Coming from humble beginnings of recording at a local studio, D Thought has since done numerous shows, acquired his own recording equipment, and released his first music video for his homeland inspired song "Land of Broken Dreams."

Edmund is naturally talented in the art forms of traditional and contemporary music. He began to sing pow wow as a young lad with his father. He also sang in a school and church choir on the Little Pine First Nation back in the early sixty's when he was ten years old. Edmund started playing guitar when he was fourteen years old and learned to play the chords by ear. Through consistent practice and perseverance Edmund became very interested in the music world. He started his own musical band called the "Native Tones" when he was twenty one. As they traveled in central Saskatchewan playing gigs in community halls for weddings, graduations and social events, his band became popular with the local communities' in which they played.

Kyle Braden Pashe (born December 7th 1985), is an Aboriginal Rapper and Record Producer from Dakota Tipi First Nation. Combining Genres like R&B, Pop and Rock into Hip Hop beats with Smooth Hooks and hard hitting lyrics, The name "VIBEZ" fits perfectly with the music that he creates.

Jb the first Lady is a Vancouver based female hip hop artist, beat-boxer, performing artist, aboriginal youth educator, single mother, award-winning actor, and member of the Nuxalk and Cayauga Nations who is "using [her] words to go upwards/not backwards."

You Are My Passion by Becky Thomas

Becky Thomas, a storyteller and Gospel recording artist, has been spinning yarn and song since she was knee high to a grasshopper. Drawing from a mixed heritage, her music is a blending of country, rock, folk and First Nations sounds. Still singing the Gospel songs that rocked her soul as a child, she is also a prolific songwriter and was recently signed with Turtle Island Music.

Started in early 1993 and in 1994 recorded a single called "Lost In Your Eyes" which was a hit on Missinnippi Broadcasting Radio in Saskatchewan, Canada. They were nominated for "Non-Touring Band Of The Year" at the "Saskatchewan Country Music Awards" in 1995. Were a favourite band coming out of northern Sask. and played consistently during their tenure opening up for the likes of Charlie Major, Rick Tippi, Shaver, Trooper and Nazareth. The band pursued other musical interests in 1996 and in the memory of their late manager "Mama Bear", they re-united in early 2008.
